At the beginning of this month, the unborn child is called a fetus. By the end of the third month it weighs about three quarters of an ounce (20 grams) and measures about 2.8 inches (7cm in length). You can now identify whether it is a boy or a girl by its external organs. During the remainder of the period of pregnancy, the fetus will increase in length, weight and strength. Very few new structures develop during this time, for the organs and tissues have been well established during the first three months. |
